§ 4.01. Appointment; qualifications; compensation.

  • At the second meeting in October of even-numbered years, the council shall appoint a city manager for a term of two (2) years and fix his compensation. The city manager shall be appointed solely on the basis of his executive and administrative qualifications.

The provisions of the last sentence of § 4.01 have assumed ordinance status by virtue of the Municipal Home Rule Powers Act (F.S. ch. 166) and their inclusion in the Code of Ordinances, City of Ocala, Florida. See Code § 2-211. Pursuant to directions of the city, the time for appointment of the city manager has been changed from "first meeting in June following the regular city election" to "second meeting in October of even-numbered years" to conform the provisions of this section to the provisions of § 2.17, as amended by Ord. No. 1022, § 11, adopted Sept. 6, 1977, and approved at referendum on Nov. 1, 1977.
