§ 78-152. Powers and duties.

  • It shall be the responsibility of the planning and zoning commission to advise and assist the city council in connection with planning and zoning and such matters pertaining thereto as may be referred to it by the city council, and to consider and recommend the boundaries of the various zoning districts of the city and appropriate regulations to be enforced therein. The city council shall have the power and authority to refer such matters pertaining to city planning and zoning for the city to the commission as it may elect. It shall be the duty of the commission, when requested to do so by the city council, to examine proposed land use plans, transportation plans, zoning charges, site plans, developments of regional impact, subdivisions, and maps and plats thereof adjacent to the corporate limits of the city and in the territory within the urban area as defined by the city council, and offer criticism and advice to the end that a uniform planning and zoning program may be laid out and adopted as will best serve the city and its urban area in its growth in the future.
