§ 54-34. Disposal of hazardous wastes.

  • (a)

    Hazardous wastes shall not be placed in residential, commercial or recycling containers for collection. These wastes must be disposed of in accordance with appropriate federal, state and county laws and regulations. Residential property owners or tenants must deliver their hazardous wastes to a facility designated by the city or to a designated city-owned property when the department conducts any of its four specially advertised annual household hazardous waste amnesty days. Electronic waste will also be accepted at these amnesty day events.

    (b)

    Refrigerators, air conditioners and other devices using chlorofluorocarbons as a coolant or the substitutes for chlorofluorocarbons are subject to special handling requirements. A separate collection and processing fee as established by resolution shall be charged to each customer requiring collection of a white good that used chlorofluorocarbons or the substitutes for chlorofluorocarbons. The charge as established by separate resolution shall automatically appear on the next utility bill.
