§ 30-31. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Automatic dialer means an electrically operated instrument composed of sensory apparatus and related hardware which automatically sends a prerecorded voice alarm.

    Building official means the head of the building department or his designee.

    Burglar or fire alarm system or device means any burglar or fire-detecting device which, upon being activated, is capable of transmitting an alarm or signal, whether by sound transmission through the air, by wire, or by whatever means, to a point off the premises where installed, or which sounds an audible alarm which can be heard off the premises where the alarm is located.

    Central alarm station means a central location or place where alarm monitoring capabilities are installed for more than one system.

    False alarm means the activation of a burglar alarm or fire alarm system or device either by the owner, lessee or employee of the premises where the alarm is located, or burglar alarm or fire alarm device malfunction, where such alarm results in a response by the police department or fire department and where an emergency situation does not exist.
